Undefeated national light fly boxing champion S.Vijayan has decided to hang up his gloves after a memorable career spanning very a decade, reports Adrian Davis.
The 27 years old Vijayan won the national title in 1978 and managed to brush aside his challengers till 1985. The national championships were not held last year. He has represented Malaysia in the SEA Games in Manila (1981) and Singapore (1983).
Among other international tournaments he has competed are the Asian championships, Asean championships and Malaysian Open.
'I feel sad having to quit the sport I love so much' said Vijayan yesterday.
'One of the reasons for my decision is because the sport is not active now. This is a very sad state of affair. And as a result the boxers are neglected and cannot improve.
